Professional Pickleball Registry Level 1 Certification Workshop
Course Outline - 8 hours
PPR Level 1 certification workshops are designed to guide instructors who are working with adult pickleball players at the beginner and improver levels towards certification. Each certification workshop is delivered by highly-trained clinicians responsible for creating an effective learning environment for all coaches.
In order to become certified, coaches must demonstrate an acceptable level of competence in three key areas – skills, teaching ability, and knowledge.
Entry Requirement
You need to be a 3.5 level player. You can find information about the levels on the USA Pickleball website (usapa.org) for a self-rating. Or play an AFP / AFP members' country-sanctioned tournament to be assigned a rating.
Preparation before the course
Before attending a PPR certification workshop, you will need to read through your study guide two or three times and must complete the online video pre-course. Your clinician will be teaching and reviewing material based on the assumption that you have mastered the contents of those items – so please come prepared!
All study material will be sent to you via email before the course, so register early so you have sufficient preparation time.
Certification Testing
You are tested on your knowledge and abilities in three main categories:
-
Written Knowledge
-
Playing & Demonstrating Skills
-
Teaching Abilities
Your certification rating will be the lowest rating you receive across those three categories. For example, if you achieve PRO in written, PRO in skills, and COACH in teaching, your overall rating will be COACH.
The written assessment will be done after the course. Ample time will be allocated for you to complete the online test at your own time.
What to bring for the course
The workshop will take place for eight hours classroom / on-court – so bring the necessary snacks, hydration, and sunscreen to keep you going! There will be small, brief breaks throughout the class, but not an official meal break. Please come hydrated and having eaten. Additionally, the workshop takes place on court – so don’t forget your paddle, court shoes, and extra socks!
Certificate
Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance after completing the session.
Upon completing the skills, written, and teaching assessments, successful candidates will be awarded the PPR Level 1 Certification.
